Oreo Layer Dessert...

...Or should I say HEAVEN!?  I used to make this dessert all the time years ago.  I haven't made it such a long time, because believe it or not, I got Oreo Layered OUT!  I made it so much because it is just so dang yummy.  My love for the stuff is back.  I promise this time I won't make it on a weekly basis and eat half the pan each time.  This is such a great summer time dessert.  It is so fluffy and delicious.  Give it a try!

Oreo Layer Dessert
1 pkg of regular Oreos
1/2 c. of butter
1 lg box of instant chocolate pudding
2-8 oz cool whips
8 oz. of cream cheese, softened
1 c. powdered sugar

Crush the whole package of cookies either with a food processor, or in a bag and a rolling pin.  Save a 1/2 c. to sprinkle on top of dessert when it's done.  Pour remaining crumbs in a 13x9 pan.  Melt butter and pour into crumb mix.  Stir it up good and press crumbs in bottom of pan to make a crust.  Make chocolate pudding according to package directions and let it setup in the fridge.  In a mixing bowl blend cream cheese until nice and smooth and then add powdered sugar, mix.  Then fold in 1-8 oz thing of cool whip.  Top oreo layer with cream cheese mix, then pudding, then your last 8 oz thing of cool whip, and then sprinkle remaining Oreo's on top.  Cover and refridgerate until ready to serve.

Hope you enjoy this dessert as much as my family does.  Have a great Wednesday!

  4. This looks so good. I am going to try to make this sugar-free...not sure what to do with the Oreos, but hopefully, I'll figure something out!

    1. If you want sugar free, you shouldn't attempt this recipe. It would lose its purpose!

  13. I was wondering about the 2 8oz of cool whip... I bought a tub of cool whip and it's 1 liter do you happen to know how much of that 1 liter I put in? haha I am so bad at geometrics! also I'm in canada so we use cups not ounces ha ha

  14. nevermind I'm such a tool! instead of searching I ask you! haha :-P I found out that 16 ounces is two cups! hahaha

  20. I wonder ... not to be a party pooper, but to guiltlessly eat more ... (ha ha)
Use "Reduced Fat Oreos" (they are good!) and "Fat Free Cool Whip". (Tastes good to me and we use it for everyone on Pumpkin Pie at Thanksgiving and no one complains) Might not want to mess with the butter though as margerine doesn't always come out the same. Could use "1/3 Less Fat Philadelphia cream cheese", too. That would help "Skinny" it up a little! :-) Just a thought ... and when I make it, that's how I'll do it.

  29. I made this today.... The pudding never set though. I finally just poured it in the pan and finished it off, hoping it would set but it never did:/ (even after sitting in the frige for about 6 hours)-- so it was all runny and not very appealing :/ I was disappointed.

    1. I used 3 cups of (2%) milk per the box instructions for instant chocolate pudding. It set up fine and worked well. Maybe you used skim milk? I guess that could make it thinner? Or maybe you accidentally used the cook-n-serve pudding mix?

  30. Ok i made this dessert today, and i am so excited to try it, @ the wife,,, since i read what you wrote, i only put in 21/2 cups of milk in instead of 3. It does show on the package that if you are making it for like a pie you only put in 21/2 cups of millk, and mine so far it actually set up really nice and it spread across there nicely, I feel bad that your had some issues, but i will let everyone know what me and my hubby think of this after tonight. Wish us luck. lol

I didn't realize that I was making every layer thicker until I got to the top and didn't have room for the second tub of coolwhip! lol oh well! I'll know for the next time I make it! :)

Because it was only me and my hubby eating it I had loads left over. My husband liked it too much to let me give it away so he has frozen the rest for next weekend. Hope it defrosts ok!

For July 4th, I used this recipe with a couple of tweaks...I used lemon pudding, and the limited edition lemon twist oreos. It was a success, and everyone was asking for more! Next time I make, I will try the mint oreos.

    1. Cool Whip is a pre-made whipped cream. You could purchase whipping cream add confectioners sugar and add this instead. The only problem with using whipping cream is that it is not as stable. It won't hold up as well in heat or for more than one day. You would want to use it up that day. Good luck!!

  60. I have a dangerous addiction to Oreo's and this was by far the best Oreo cake I've ever had! It was so easy and simple to make, I love that there is no baking (which means I don't have to turn the oven on during the hot summer days). Although this cake can be eaten anytime of the year, Its light, fluffy and cool texture makes it a perfect dessert to enjoy with family and friends out on the patio. It has the perfect amount of sweetness for just about anyone to enjoy, I highly recommend trying out this dessert!

  66. I love this dessert so much! I've made this 2-3 times now, it's my go to when I need to make dessert for a large gathering!

The only changes I make is I add vanilla extract to the cream cheese layer, and I use cook and serve pudding instead of instant, personally I find that instant has a weird taste, cook and serve is way better. (: so I put the pudding in the fridge to cool down before layering it on the dessert.

    Yummy yummy!!
