Oreo Layer Dessert
1 pkg of regular Oreos
1/2 c. of butter
1 lg box of instant chocolate pudding
2-8 oz cool whips
8 oz. of cream cheese, softened
1 c. powdered sugar
Crush the whole package of cookies either with a food processor, or in a bag and a rolling pin. Save a 1/2 c. to sprinkle on top of dessert when it's done. Pour remaining crumbs in a 13x9 pan. Melt butter and pour into crumb mix. Stir it up good and press crumbs in bottom of pan to make a crust. Make chocolate pudding according to package directions and let it setup in the fridge. In a mixing bowl blend cream cheese until nice and smooth and then add powdered sugar, mix. Then fold in 1-8 oz thing of cool whip. Top oreo layer with cream cheese mix, then pudding, then your last 8 oz thing of cool whip, and then sprinkle remaining Oreo's on top. Cover and refridgerate until ready to serve.
Hope you enjoy this dessert as much as my family does. Have a great Wednesday!
Oh lord have mercy.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely stealing this recipe.
WHY!?!?! Mitch would kill me and love me all at the same tine if I made this...... maybe I will make it for my nephews blessing then I have to share it and won't end up eating it all myself.... Erica, you complete me *sigh*
ReplyDeleteThat looks soooo good!
ReplyDeleteYum Yum! Sounds like a keeper to me. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThis looks so good. I am going to try to make this sugar-free...not sure what to do with the Oreos, but hopefully, I'll figure something out!
ReplyDeleteIf you want sugar free, you shouldn't attempt this recipe. It would lose its purpose!
DeleteHow much butter is a 'cube'?
ReplyDelete1/2 cup. Sorry I wasn't very clear.
ReplyDeleteIt's an 8 oz thing of cream cheese.
ReplyDeleteI added 1/2 cup of peanut butter and a pkg of mini Reeses Peanut Butter cups chopped into chunks into the pudding before I spread it onto the cookies. Really, really rich.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this suggestion!! I make this dessert with those additions every time and every time I make it people rave over it. Great recipe!
DeleteThis was one of my fave desserts as a kid! So glad you posted the recipe so I can revisit my childhood!!
ReplyDeleteAMEN!
DeleteThis comment has been removed by a blog administrator.
ReplyDeletemy husband's fave dessert, only made with vanilla pudding instead! yum!
ReplyDeleteDo you scrape the filling out of the Oreos or leave it in?
ReplyDeleteLeave that yummy goodness in. :)
ReplyDeleteI was wondering about the 2 8oz of cool whip... I bought a tub of cool whip and it's 1 liter do you happen to know how much of that 1 liter I put in? haha I am so bad at geometrics! also I'm in canada so we use cups not ounces ha ha
ReplyDeletenevermind I'm such a tool! instead of searching I ask you! haha :-P I found out that 16 ounces is two cups! hahaha
ReplyDeletewhat size pan do you use? 9x13?? sounds to big to fit in a pie pan, or does it just layer high?
ReplyDeleteYes. A 9x13.
ReplyDeletemaking this right now for my husbands birthday~
ReplyDeleteI Love your recipes! Thanks so much for sharing, I'm your newest follower. Please stop by Simplyhomecents.blogspot.com sometime to say Hi! Tabitha
ReplyDeleteThis sounds amazing! Making right now!
ReplyDeleteYummmmm. I am making this tonight. Thanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI wonder ... not to be a party pooper, but to guiltlessly eat more ... (ha ha)
ReplyDeleteUse "Reduced Fat Oreos" (they are good!) and "Fat Free Cool Whip". (Tastes good to me and we use it for everyone on Pumpkin Pie at Thanksgiving and no one complains) Might not want to mess with the butter though as margerine doesn't always come out the same. Could use "1/3 Less Fat Philadelphia cream cheese", too. That would help "Skinny" it up a little! :-) Just a thought ... and when I make it, that's how I'll do it.
Let us know how it turns out! Still sounds awesome. Mmmmm...
DeleteOh my lord. I made this today- amazing. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI made this tonight and it was SO good! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI made this for book club this week and everyone loved it. My husband and I ate the leftovers as we passed the fridge all week. lol Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSounds scrumptious! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI made this for a group of about 45 and they devoured it!!! Adults and children alike. I double the recipe of course. It was amazing! Thank you for posting it!
ReplyDeleteHas anyone tried making this the night before an event? Just wondering if it would sit well over night? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteSorry I haven't replied til now. I have made it the night before and it was just fine the next day. Maybe even better!?
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteYum! A friend at work made this for her family this weekend and loved it! I forgot that I have to take a dessert to a meeting tonight so I came home right after school and whipped this up... Still have an hour until my meeting but I know they will love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks For The Recipe!!!!
Sorry... I forgot to say I added some mini chocolate chips to the pudding part!
ReplyDeleteI made this today.... The pudding never set though. I finally just poured it in the pan and finished it off, hoping it would set but it never did:/ (even after sitting in the frige for about 6 hours)-- so it was all runny and not very appealing :/ I was disappointed.
ReplyDeleteI used 3 cups of (2%) milk per the box instructions for instant chocolate pudding. It set up fine and worked well. Maybe you used skim milk? I guess that could make it thinner? Or maybe you accidentally used the cook-n-serve pudding mix?
DeleteOk i made this dessert today, and i am so excited to try it, @ the wife,,, since i read what you wrote, i only put in 21/2 cups of milk in instead of 3. It does show on the package that if you are making it for like a pie you only put in 21/2 cups of millk, and mine so far it actually set up really nice and it spread across there nicely, I feel bad that your had some issues, but i will let everyone know what me and my hubby think of this after tonight. Wish us luck. lol
ReplyDeleteYum just made it... Can't wait till the hubby gets home. Thank you
ReplyDeleteThe cool whips is necesary?
ReplyDeleteI made this for a block party today and it was the dessert that got all the praise over my cupcakes and someone else's homemade strawberry ice cream! There were 20+ people and I took 1/3 of the dish back home. Loved it myself and I will be making this again when asked to bring a dessert to any large gathering! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteYay! I love comments like these! Thank you so much! So happy it was such a big hit. It really is the yummiest dessert.
DeleteI wanted to add that it is now November and I'm making this again to take to the Thanksgiving feast! I shared this with viewers on my YouTube channel (because I made a video of the recipe) and linked it to your blog! Thanks! video link: http://youtu.be/aL3pe4KXEA0
DeleteJoanne-I tried to view the video and it said it is private? I would love to see! Thank you so much for the link back. Means a lot!
DeleteErica*
I made this for my coworkers and everyone RAVED about how delicious it was - I *almost* felt guilty about how easy it was to make ;-)
ReplyDeleteI wonder how it would taste with a brownie as the bottom layer instead of the crushed oreos? Don't get me wrong, this looks amazing - I just love brownies :)
ReplyDeleteDid you try it with brownies?
DeleteI picture this layerd some more in a truffle dish...beautiful chocolateness
ReplyDeleteMade this twice now and LOVE it! Everyone really liked it and I never have any left to bring home. Thanks for Sharing--Rachel

We're making this right now for our Memorial Day picnic with our family. My husband, 8, 6, 4 & 2 year olds are ALL helping! Thanks my kind of dessert :D
ReplyDeleteIt was a hit! People were adding whipped cream from the other dessert to my pan to gather as much pudding as they could from the sides :) They nearly licked the pan!
DeleteAgain...my kind of dessert!
Thanks!
I would have totally licked the pan!
DeleteThis was delicious! I made a small mistake, I thought I'd be sneaky and put it in an 8x8 pan to make the crust thicker. I didn't realize that I was making every layer thicker until I got to the top and didn't have room for the second tub of coolwhip! lol oh well! I'll know for the next time I make it! :)
ReplyDeleteThis was AWESOME!!! It turned out perfectly. Thanks for the recipe. Can't wait for a good "excuse" to make it again! (o:
ReplyDeleteI was wondering what "one large package of pudding" means? Would it be okay if I just used two regular sized packages of instant pudding?
ReplyDeleteProbably would be ok. Might be a little to much?
DeleteWonder if this could be frozen and served later. Let it thaw first and sprinkle reserved cookies on after it thaws out? Anyone try this?
ReplyDeleteI have never tried this. If you end up trying it, let me know how it turns out.
DeleteThe creamcheese layer is a recipe I use for pies (tub coolwhip, 8oz cr cheese, 3/4 conf sug into 2 graham crusts and top with cheesecake toppings of your choice) Yum!
ReplyDeleteSounds divine!!
DeleteThis is the same recipe (plus a little bit of vanilla) that my grandmother uses for her cheesecake recipe. No eggs, no baking. It's fabulous!
DeleteI made a sugar free version of this replacing the powdered sugar with a cup of stevia and a tsp. of cornstarch and sugar free oreos and sugar free pudding. It was so good. The cream cheese layer by itself had an aftertaste but mixed in with the pudding you couldn't even tell! Thanks for the recipe!!!
ReplyDeleteInteresting! I think I might have to try it. Wonder what the calorie count would be on a whole pan?! Haha!
DeleteFound this recipe on Pinterest, it looks so good! =)
ReplyDeleteIm a new follower!
Yay for new followers! It is so good!
DeleteHad this for Labor Day and it was wonderful. Just finished making one myself and it is heavenly! Reminds me a lot of dirt cake but even better with the chocolate pudding! Thanks for the recipe.
ReplyDeleteSo heavenly! Thanks for stopping by!!
Deletecan you freeze this?
ReplyDeleteI've never done it before. If you are brave, and decide to do it, let me know how it turns out!
DeleteWow, such an amazing cake, this texture looks incredible!
ReplyDeleteHow many cups does a pkg of crushed oreos make?
ReplyDeleteThanks very much for the recipe. My husband and I loved it. I used less butter in the crust though. I found it was better the next day. Because it was only me and my hubby eating it I had loads left over. My husband liked it too much to let me give it away so he has frozen the rest for next weekend. Hope it defrosts ok!
ReplyDeleteI've posted it on my blog here: http://www.madewithpink.com/2013/01/oreo-cream-cheese-layer-dessert.html
Just made this and I'm so mad at myself because it is so yummy, I'm afraid I will eat the whole thing. Thank you
ReplyDeleteHey just wondering could I use pre packaged pudding, or is it better with the instant??
ReplyDeleteI've never tried it with the prepackaged, but I don't see why you couldn't use it. It might not hold up as good as the instant though. I don't know? If you try it, let me know how it goes.
DeleteThought I'd add to the plethora of good reviews :) I made this for a gathering with friends last week, and I literally had 3 girls corner me demanding a recipe! I made so much because I wanted to take some home, but there wasn't any! Great recipe! So easy and fast and freaking delicious!!
ReplyDeleteDear Paulina, I am using eaglehost.info and I can recommend them as excellent web hosting provider, they have cheap prices and excellent web hosting service, they also have reseller web hosting, I am using www.eaglehost.info within 5 years and so far so good
ReplyDeleteGreat recipe! Thank you! I made this last month for a gathering and had rave reviews! For July 4th, I used this recipe with a couple of tweaks...I used lemon pudding, and the limited edition lemon twist oreos. It was a success, and everyone was asking for more! Next time I make, I will try the mint oreos.
ReplyDeleteLemon pudding? Brilliant! I'm a fan of all things lemon.
DeleteI've made this twice and it's my favorite thing ever. I try not to make it too much because I eat the whole pan!
ReplyDeleteMy coworker made this with reduced fat ingredients and we had no clue until she told us. It was amazing!
ReplyDeleteWhat's the cream you put on? Whatever it is I can't get it where I live so what can I use?
ReplyDeleteCool Whip is a pre-made whipped cream. You could purchase whipping cream add confectioners sugar and add this instead. The only problem with using whipping cream is that it is not as stable. It won't hold up as well in heat or for more than one day. You would want to use it up that day. Good luck!!
DeleteDo you use the cool whip frozen or thawed?
ReplyDeleteHi Katie! You definitely need to thaw it first. :)
DeleteOkay, these look amazing!!! Can't wait to try them. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI have a dangerous addiction to Oreo's and this was by far the best Oreo cake I've ever had! It was so easy and simple to make, I love that there is no baking (which means I don't have to turn the oven on during the hot summer days). Although this cake can be eaten anytime of the year, Its light, fluffy and cool texture makes it a perfect dessert to enjoy with family and friends out on the patio. It has the perfect amount of sweetness for just about anyone to enjoy, I highly recommend trying out this dessert!
ReplyDeleteThis was delicious! Thank you so much for the recipe. We'll be making this again and again.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recipe. Just made this for Thanksgiving dessert and it was certainly a hit. It was a bit too sweet, though, so next time I'm planning to cut out half of the sugar.
ReplyDeleteMy kids loved it and weasels seconds out of me!
ReplyDeleteHas anyone used the pre-made oreo pie crusts? Maybe make 2 8" round pies?
ReplyDeleteyes! My kindergartners are making this tomorrow!!! We are learning all about Spring and planting a veggie garden. I am simplifying the recipe but they are making a pan in small groups. Can't wait to taste!!! And my After School Program are planting a community garden with Gen-H! So we are making it too!!
ReplyDeleteAdding strawberries so it looks like plants are growing!!
I love this dessert so much! I've made this 2-3 times now, it's my go to when I need to make dessert for a large gathering!
ReplyDeleteThe only changes I make is I add vanilla extract to the cream cheese layer, and I use cook and serve pudding instead of instant, personally I find that instant has a weird taste, cook and serve is way better. (: so I put the pudding in the fridge to cool down before layering it on the dessert.
Yummy yummy!!
